e-Learning Pedagogy - Introductory Activities

In each of these on-line courses you will not meet your tutor (me) or any of the other course members face to face. You are encouraged to do these on line activities for each of the three courses even if you have done them before because you will be introducing yourself to a new group of colleagues each time.

This introductory activity will be essentially the same for each of the three courses but it will involve an interaction with a different group of people each time.

These sessions are not about teaching you how to upload material into WebCT or about the mechanics of using this software. It is assumed that you have already taken the basic WebCT courses run by ILS.

Details of the Activity

Go to WebCT and open the course EPED E-PEDAGOGY, then click on the link to Discussion area in the Course Menu on the left of the page.

Open the topic Introduction and read the Introductory message and follow its instructions.

The purpose of this exercise is to allow you to familiarise yourself with using the Discussion area of WebCT.

Make sure that when you reply to a message or create a new one, for this introductory activity, that you are in the topic area "e-learning:why bother:Introduction". It should be seen in the Topic box at the top of the message area.

Try posting a message and replying to a message to see how it works. I will give an example of each of these in the topic area.
