e-Learning: Using Activities and Discussion to Promote Learning

Welcome to my home page for the e-learning session about using activities and discussion on-line

The purpose of this session is to discuss the ways in which we might encourage students to learn using on-line discussions.

To help with this we might consider:

• key questions to be addressed when designing activities;
• the levels at which activities might be set, both cognitively and affectively;
• the purpose of the activity

After we have discussed some of the above points we could try out some on-line activities for ourselves so that we might gain a little experience to help inform our ideas.

After trying these activities try answering the following questions:

• How do you see on-line activities working within your teaching?
• Can you list the characteristics of effective on-line activities?
