Testing Student Understanding

When developing on-line testing which may be used in a blended learning environment there are a number of questions to be considered:

  1. What is the purpose of the testing?
    For example it may be testing simple recall of factual material to give students the vocabulary to engage with the subject.
  2. When do the students access it?
    Do we give students an opportunity to access in sessions, on campus or at home? Does this raise questions of general student access to computer systems?
  3. How does the testing promote student centred learning?
  4. How do you and the students know that the testing has promoted student centred learning?
