Activity 7 – Website Structures

Look at the diagrams of the three website structures on slide 6 of the lecture slides.

  1. Taking each one in turn, what do you think are the advantages / disadvantages of each structure?
  2. Think through the mental model that each of the structures projects onto the user – what are your opinions?
  1. Find examples of websites that illustrate these three basic structures and save the URLs into a WORD document. If you can’t find any have a chat with your neighbour to see how they are doing and steal some ideas from them.

Create a Structure Diagram

Create a structure diagram for an imaginary website of your choice using any drawing program you like (Word, PowerPoint etc) What kind of structure is it and why?

Create a storyboard for the front page of same website paying particular attention to layout as well as content. Use PowerPoint to create it or any other suitable drawing program.

A storyboard template is available on the module website under Session 3 attachments.

or you can go to:
http://puma.wellesley.edu/~cs110/project/webpage_template.pdf

or just create your own.

Share your ideas.  Do your neighbours agree that this is the best format?  Are they able to offer useful suggestions for improvements?  You do not have to implement all their suggestions, but it would be worth spending some time considering your options.

Finally: put copies of your storyboards and structure diagrams into the discussion forum on Blackboard.
