6th February: Session 01 OK: Introduction to the module

In the first session we will be looking at the different software tools that we will use to achieve our learning outcomes in this module

You will engage in activities to support your learning by building your confidence in the use of the tools and techniques and allowing you to discover for yourself the characteristics of "good web design".

13th February : Session 02  available: An introduction to Web 2.0 technologies

In the second session we will look at some of the available web 2.0 technologies that allow you to publish on the web. You will be making a final choice of which ones you want to use in session 07.

20th February: Session 03 available: Getting to Grips with CSS

In the third session you will use a set of resources to learn the basics of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

This will include:

  • separating design from content;
  • creating a simple Style Sheet;
  • defining simple font styles and using Classes;
  • external and cascading Style Sheets;
  • introducing <div> and <span>;
  • shaping your links;

27th February: Session 04 not yet available: The needs of the user

Usability and accessibility. Good design or usability? Appropriate navigation. Designing a web site.

6th March: Session 05 available: Further CSS

Positioning on the screen. Static, Absolute, Relative and Fixed Positioning. Floating elements and the Z-Index. Designing without tables using the box model.

13th March: Session 06 : Consolidating CSS

This week is an opportunity to consolidate our ideas about CSS and pick up on some of the issues we have not completed fully in the first half of the module. We will also take a further look at the assignment.

20th March: Session 07 available: Web 2.0 technologies for your assignment

In this session you will choose which of the additional web 2.0 technologies you wish to use in your assignment.

27th March: Session 08 not yet available: Further web 2.0 technologies

A consolidation of last week.

3rd April: Session 09 not yet available: Publishing your work on the web 1

In this session you will start to publish your material using web pages, blogs and wikis and the other web 2.0 technologies of your choice.

Weeks beginning 6th April and 13th April : Easter break

Please note that there will be no taught sessions in these two weeks.

In this session you will continue to publish your material using web pages, blogs and wikis and the other web 2.0 technologies of your choice.

1st May : Session 11 not yet available: Assignment Tutorials

In this session we will have a general discussion of the assignment with some detailed individual discussion.

8th May : Session 12 not yet available: Assignment Tutorials

Here you will be given the opportunity to discuss your assignment on an individual basis.
