Working with student blogs

I have just had the first session of my Year 3 module on web design and all of the students have successfully:

  • contributed to a wiki;
  • set up their own blog;
  • written a post on their blog;
  • commented on another blog post;

I have asked them to complete an activity report and a comment on somebody else’s blog by next week. Let’s see how it goes.

Also next week I have to decide how I am going to get them to use RSS feeds. At the moment my preferred option is to use a portable version of Firefox with WIZZ RSS installed as an extension. Again we will see if it works. The alternative is to use a web based system like Bloglines. I have tried Google reader but I could not make it do what I wanted without a lot of effort. The system we use has to be simple.
